I usually do this like

local (msgAckListString=(pta^.discussionGroup + ".messages.[\"" + string.padWithZeros(msgNum ,7)+ ""]
pluginInfo.metaData.ackList"))

then

local (msgAckListAdr = @msgAckListString^)
