I'm encountered this problem using the metaData plugin [1] to Manila, by the way. (Awesome!)

When you edit a template and Submit the page, Manila is doing some pre-processing on the template. In particular, it appears to be looking for things inside of curly braces, such as {thing}. If it doesn't recognize {thing}, it replaces the curly braces with the quivalent HTMP numeric entity, so {thing} becomes &#123thing&amp#125.

If I include a metaData macro in the template at Prefs-Dicsussion Group-Single Message Appearance-Message template, all is well. But if I include the same macro in Prefs-Dicsussion Group-Topic Appearance-Message template, it's not recognized and is converted as shown.

I think it's a bug (somewhere). These two templates are not being pre-processed identically.
