How about a seven-digit, incrementing padded string like the #discussionGroup.messages table does?

The title of a message is metadata about the message, which has a unique identity (that is, the message number). You wouldn't use the title of a message as its key.

Similarly, the e-mail address of a member is metadata about that member, and thus inappropriate for use as a primary key.
