login not working

Hi all,

We've got a rather serious problem on our hands at the moment: logging in
(and out, as well as joining) of sites hosted on our server has stopped
working.  If you try to login from the Members box on any site (including
the Create a Site weblog) you get the following message: 

"404 Not Found
The requested URL http://manila.cet.middlebury.edu/member/login was not
found on this server."

You get a similar message if you try to log out or join a site.

We've got the "Share a membership group with the hosting site" option turned
on, so all of the sites log in through our Create a Site weblog.  Now, that
site was working fine this morning; I was able to login and update a story.
Shortly after that, login stopped working.

Removing the login macro and hardcoding the login URL (i.e
http://manila.cet.middlebury.edu/mysite/member/login) for any given site
does allow you to login on a site-by-site basis.  This is a hack that we'd
prefer not to have to perform for all of our sites.  In the meantime, we've
also created a "login" weblog to route users through that takes advantage of
the shared membership group function.

We are mystified as to why this occured and how to restore the login
function to its normal state.  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly
appreciated!
