Search engine suddenly no longer works.

So I'm sitting at a sustainability conference desperately needing to
point to articles on my Frontier site. But I can't find them because all
of a sudden the search engine isn't working any more. It appears to be
generating and updating the index properly (I'm not absolutely sure of
this because I just deleted it and it won't generate until the top of
the hour).

WHAT I DID:
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The search engine simply quit working.

WHAT I EXPECTED
To enter a query term into the search field and have the results
returned, like always.

WHAT HAPPENED
When the Search button is clicked, no search takes place. It doesn't
even try. No results page appears (not even an empty one); the query
appears never to leave the search page.

Please respond directly, I'm digestified and I really need to get this
working immediately. Like yesterday.
