Ok, how about automatically rendering STORIES to html files for those of us
who render and use newsitems? I feel like this is a 1/2 implemented feature
since only homepages get rendered.
While a discussion group is a "moving target" with lots of changes, a story
is usually pretty much a finished product.
Even a simple, undescriptive url like ../stories2002/02/story1177.html
would be great. I know Frontier has the power to do this but I don't have
the skills to make this happen.
In five or ten or even twenty years, I'm not sure if Frontier and Userland
will be around. Small companies can vanish overnight. But I'm pretty darn
sure that my html files and my newspaper which has been in operation since
the 1920's will be around. I don't want our data locked up in a proprietary
database.
BTW - Staff are diggin' what we've done around here with manila. Now they
have some power to publish without consulting a geek. ;-)
And Dave, we really, REALLY need this to comply with legal use of the campus
area network. We are required to serve our pages from an off campus server.
