Upgrade from 5.1.6 to 9

I wouldn't be too worried about te height of the 9.0 number, which is 
99% marketing inspired, as was 8.0. So technically you are looking at a 
5.x to a 7.x upgrade, file formats haven't changed (I think) and you 
can copy-paste between the two.

So I would start with running the 9.0 app with your original .root 
file(s) and see if that works. From there you can start thinking about 
implementing some of the structural changes (guest databases, tools, 
etc.) the newer versions have brought.
