Bad links generated for gems

Hi. I've been trying to set up gems for a Manila site for the first  
time. I have set up folders and  the siteTree as outlined in the online  
documentation.

Gems are being uploaded OK, and the URL displayed on the Gems page is  
correct, e.g.

lp.soc.hit-u.ac.jp/files/testGems/helloWorld.ppt

However, the URL generated for the above link to the gem is doubled up  
i.e.

http://lp.soc.hit-u.ac.jp/testGems/gems/lp.soc.hit-u.ac.jp/files/ 
testGems/helloWorld.ppt

Shortcuts to the gem also receive this doubled-up link.

I must be making a basic error somewhere. I would be very grateful if  
somebody could tell me where I am going wrong.
