Macro problem

The "login" macro doesn't work on any site we're running at Middlebury.
It's the one in Prefs>Editorial>Editors only message: Editors can <a
href="login">login here</a> -- that one.

It only works when I change to: Editors can <a
href="http://wl.middlebury.edu/member/login"target="_blank"> login here</a>,
thus having to write out the entire thing, which is fine, but it's a real
hassle when teachers and students shut down their sites for their classes
and then can't get in: HELP!
