Basic troubleshooting document?

There doesn't appear to be a discernable pattern. I have nothing extra
installed in the user.scheduler, it contains
the usual nirvana, RCS and search engine tasks. For example, here's the
crash times from today so far:
It's 12:07PM local time as I write this part:
2/19/2003 @ 06:56:57.248
2/19/2003 @ 10:02:38.102
2/19/2003 @ 10:10:56.302
2/19/2003 @ 10:46:25.517
2/19/2003 @ 10:46:40.715
2/19/2003 @ 11:18:56.463
2/19/2003 @ 11:48:18.071
Yesterday was 55 times, with the earliest at 4:56am local time and the
latest at 8:22pm with the following hourly breakdown:
4am hour: 1
8am hour: 1
9am hour: 3
10am hour: 4
11am hour: 5
noon hour: 5
1pm hour: 3
2pm hour: 5
3pm hour: 4
4pm hour: 3
5pm hour: 6
6pm hour: 5
7pm hour: 8
8pm hour: 2
Looking through my 2003-02-19.root I don't see anything odd, but then I
don't really know what I'm looking for. It contains tables for
hourlyLogReopen, inetd (which seems to contain anywhere from 2 to 33 entries
an hour for read/write stream failures due to TCP/IP errors of 10053, 10054,
10060 or the TCP connection closing unexpectedly. These are just browser
failures where someone aborts loading a page, right?), radioCommunityServer,
rootUpdates and Search Engine.
Is there some additional logging I can turn on?

Basically, what you need to do is find out what's going on when the crash
happens. What do your log files tell you? Is there a scheduled script
running hourly, every minute that might be doing this? Check
user.scheduler and look at the times. Do they correspond with crashes?
