I've been hit with comment spam only. I thought that I'd be able to deal with spammers by

1) turning the membership off
2) blocking all the existing members (except for me and others that I know are ok)
3) deleting existing spammy comments

Now, when I check in on my site, I see that new members have joined and have spammed my site. Is someone/a bot able to join my site even when I have the membership turned off? Or did I miss something?
