Thanks for responding. I recognize your name as having a long history of Manila/Frontier/Radio development and use.
In reverse order:
The G3/300 is my test machine [1] on 512Kb of bandwidth. I'll probably deploy on Windows for exactly the reason you mention: price/performance. I'm very comfortable managing Windows boxes, so it's not too scary for me. Plus, remote desktop/terminal services for management is easy and builtin.
This brings up one of my fundamental issues: remote management. Frontier/Manila seems to require a significant amount of visits to the application's interface and has no command line alternative. I lack the skills to write good UserTalk scripts to help me in that. Manila resources are wide and scattered, but when found are great. User-level stuff is great, but server admin level stuff is sparse.
