I have a small home network of 3 computers, all connected to the net through an ADSL router+switcher. Each computer has its (dummy) IP address 192.168.1.xx . My router is instructed to use one of the computer as HTTP server. My ISP only gives me dynamic IP address, and I use dyndns to associate a static url of the form myhost.dyndsn.org to my dynamic IP address. Using IIS, I had no problem in publishing my site on the server and reaching it through the 'myhost.dyndns.org' address. When I uninstalled IIS and installed Frontier - which is now the only web server running - the default Manila home site was automatically created using the (dummy) IP address of the server: 192.168.1.33. I can work on it from my computer, but when I try to reach it from outside using the 'myhost.dyndns.org' address I only seem able to reach the home page: all subsequent operations - like logging in, reading sub-sites... - give me a page not found error. Apparently, Manila uses the dummy 192.168.1.33 address as basic url for all those tasks, and of course this url won't work from outside my network. I tried to substitute in the Manage Stie:Home page of the Admin site the default url http://192.168.1.33/ with http://myhost.dynamicdns.org : I don't know if this works from outside my network (my be I should substitute the new url to ALL the instances of http://192.168.1.33/ in the Admin pages??), but if I make this substitution it seems that I can no longer work on the site from INSIDE my network (I get a page not found error). May be it's a dummy question with a simple answer... but I am really a newbie here. Any suggestion? Now that being said we could modify the above script to give us this behavior (something I do not like to do) or we could add a final filter to your server that is only called when someone is joining as a new member (just look at the pta^.path value. And go on from there. If we coded it right we could change it easily to support the callback if userland adds it later. In-Reply-To: Message-ID: You should find lots of useful information on the Making Connections website at http://www.mcu.org.uk. Making a weblog accessible is no different from making any other website accessible - flexible design is the key. Ensure that you don't get in the way of the users ability to set their own browser preferences, e.g. don't use absolute units to set font sizes ( pixels or pts are absolute, em units or percentages are relative units - use relative units) Ensure that users can set their own text and background colours. If there is lots of navigation on the left or at the top of each page, provides some way of jumping over the navigation straight to content (see http://jimthatcher.com for solutions) Don't use the font tag to set fonts or sizes - use style sheets instead - ideally use style sheets for layout as well (I know that's difficult but now's the time to start experimenting if you haven't tried before) Use HTML as it was intended - i.e. put your headings within Header tags, your paragraphs within paragraph tags. Add descriptive labels to images, particularly navigation images - the labels should describe the content of the page being linked to. Add empty alt tags to decorative images, i.e. alt=" " (that's a space) Validate your HTML and CSS. Reading a web page is a very 'linear' experience for someone using a screen reader - sighted users can scan quickly - it's less easy for someone using a screen reader. Bear that in mind when you are laying out your pages. Anyway, I'll not go on, there's lots about accessible design on the web and on the Making Connections Unit site - happy learning. For some people learning how to do that isn't as much a learning curve as for other people for whom it's a high learning curve like people with dyslexia. When the page that utilizes the random image script loads, it pre-loads all of the images in the array. This really slows down the loading of the page. If you don't use JavaScript but UserTalk instead, you can use my little script for this reason (it's about randomly rotating banners but it works with simple pictures as well). See (it's in German but I Thin the script is self-explanation). If you don't need a link behind the pciture you can ommit the second (glossRef) parameter. And I've testet it on my Manila-Site by removing the second (glossRef),too - it works. But "Ellsworth in Idaho" and the others have to be valid shortcut in Manila. That means in your list of shortcuts the name must exist and linking to something like . And pictureRef() as well as random() has to be an allowed macro. If your Manila-site is hosting by UserLand this macro is valid by default. In another case ask your system adminstrator. And there mustn't any blank lines within your macro because Manila is rendering by default every blank line to a

-tag (and than the macro is broken). There are sometimes problems with the different linefeeds in the different operating systems. Try to write the whole macro in on line (it looks awful, but it should work ;o). Yes it can. But it only changes the pictures randomly when you are updating your radio site. I've a similar script for random quotes in Radio here: The script looks at a file (quotes.txt) where is every quote in one line and picks randomly a line by every update. I'm planning a similar script for "random media" that shows a rondom picture with a link behind by every update.
