An update.

I think Steve's script will get me on track.

A few notes:

1) Steve, your link to the script is hosed, though a little editing can get it to work.
2) The files are fat pages but don't hook properly. Maybe a simple .zip of the two would be better.

There's no obvious means of limiting which files get compacted, so I'll wrap some code there and do some other bits such as allowing a filename to be passed in as a parameter for a one-off compaction. If I do any significant work on this, would you like a copy back?
