The non appearance of the password *is* due to a change in Frontier; its a change I instigated. The idea was to move to generated passwords which are typically more secure than those dreamt up by an administrator in a hurry. Now spammer robots subscribing to websites to post their poison is upon us, security of access has to improve.

However there is provision to restore the password field on a site by site basis. Currently you need console access to enable it , do it as follows

1) open the table in the chosen site called #newSite, and locate and expand the sub table called accesscontrol

2) if there is no entry called flAddUserFormPassword add it. Either way set the value to true.

There needs to be a administrative website method of doing this, but because Manilla must also exist in environments where system admins set security poliy for Managing Editors, it cannot be a site option.

One last point about building membership groups for sites at semester start. Doing that manually is not ideal regardless of the existence of the password field. Another approach - importing from a speadsheet is discussed on this page http://www.addedvalues.org/casestudies/membership
