Are there any limits on the URL that you provide for an enclosure in a news item?

I'm testing a site/feed that will have PDF enclosures. I created a news item, and for the enclosure, I supplied the URL to a file on a secured server, to see how it would work.

The RSS feed has no enclosure item in it. If it's because Manila can't obtain the necessary information (size, MIME type, etc.), how can I provide it with a username and password so it can do that? If that's not it, what is it?
