I chose the root update method, and it seems to have worked just fine. I'm sure some of my custom patches are now missing from somewhere, but I'll figure that out and go put them back in.

Thanks for all the help. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make a site accessible only to existing members without adding them all to the editors list. :-)
