Well after you create a site you can go through and customize the Site
name/Tag line settings on the Appearance preferences page (which is what you
were modifying in the #newsSite table.

There currently isn't a preference to configure this through the New Site
form, but I'll post the feature request to our bug tracking database.

Subject: [UNCLASSIFIED] separating the URL and the sitename

When I create a site, can I separate the URL from the sitename?

eg I create a site with an url ending "coarsegrains"...but I want the site
name rendered as "coarse grains" in say, the banner or title (ie when
{sitename} is called)

One way I realised was to change the entry at ["#newsSite"].siteName from
"coarse grains" to "coarsegrains"

Is anybody aware if that would break something?

(This would be for subsites rather than top level sites)

There are only 2 entries in the manual with "sitename" - and neither of them
discuss this issue.

thanks,
Christopher
