Was there any update on this? These problems are preventing me from using Manila for a group blog from Macworld Expo this week. Some people are the show and others (like me) are not, and if they post items remotely, the RSS feed will have the local server in all the URLs that are sent as trackbacks, pings to blog tracking services, and so on. That brings too much traffic to the live server, and as noted, Manila won't let us make the site editors-only; anyone can see it.
When it's just one or two people posting at expect times, we can run a shell script that replaces the URLs in the RSS feed with the right ones, but we don't want to have to make that a cron job that might trigger at the wrong time or hit a partial XML file or something. We really just want a private server that's inaccessible to outsiders, but which we can use to push updates to a static server on a bigger pipe. We still can't do that because the RSS feed has the live server's URLs in it and we can't block non-editors from seeing the live site.
