I’ve got a news site that uses the multiple department feature extensively, posting up to about 20 news stories a day. The editors choose the 5 best news items for the home page (leaving the “Home Page” checkbox selected), and relegate the rest for the individual department pages (unselecting the “Home Page” checkbox when creating the item).

Unfortunately this totally breaks the built-in search engine. Search results are returned with the news day link ( …/2006/12/12) instead of the item permalink. If a news item was not posted on the Home Page for that day it will not appear when the searcher clinks the link to the search result. Instead they’ll see the top 5 news items for that day, and nothing else.

I would use a Google site-search, but this is an intranet site. Are there any plans to fix the built-in search behavior? It would also help alleviate a performance issue – pulling older, archived news day pages from this large site takes about 12 seconds, on average.

This is a Manila site... http://manila.userland.com/.
