New Message: viewNewsItems macro is not returning results

I have one particular blog that returns no results to a viewNewsItems macro, even though I've confirmed that the department contains news items.

The macro code is successfully inserted in the message, i.e. not neutered. The same code works in other blogs, so I'm stumped.
