Lawrence, did you ever figure out what was going on here. I have been seeing the same sort of problem on a couple of my domains.

A little more info, if I disable the kernel calls the problem goes away. Obviously I don't want to disable these calls because they are used by other scripts as well.

I don't know if it is related or not, but the problem first appeared after the IP address of my server changed. I have tried searching for the old IP address to see if it is sitting somewere and messing things up but haven't found any instances.
