Today we released a new feature for Manila -- IP address tracking. This feature helps you to track down and prevent spammers.
Whenever a new discussion group message or comment is posted, Manila now records the IP address along with the discussion group message.
People who might abuse public comment systems and discussion groups will be discouraged to do so if their IP address is made public.
For this reason, we've supplied new macros for the comment template and discussion group message templates, that allow you to display the IP address of the computer that originated the message.
This feature is available now on all UserLand-hosted Manila sites.
<rules><!-- internal link, bold headings -->
<rule level="1" to="1"><textStyle>bold</textStyle></rule>
<rule level="1" to="1"><internalLink/></rule>
</rules>
How to
Here's how to display the IP address in comments and discussion group messages:
1. Go to your site's Discussion Group Prefs page -- click on Prefs in the Editors Only menu, and then click the Discussion group link.
2. Scroll down to the Single Message Appearance section, and add the following macro to the Message Template, where you want the poster's IP address to appear:
{ipAddress}
3. On the same page, scroll down to the Topic Appearance section, add the ipAddress macro to the Message Template.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.
5. Go to the Radio Hosting Prefs page -- click the Radio Hosting link.
6. Scroll down to the Comment Template, and add the ipAddress macro to the template, where you want the poster's IP address to appear.
That's it -- all new messages posted to your site will now display the IP address of the computer that was used to post the message.
