Scott,

The lefthand navigation on the site prefs page (Editorial Menu>Prefs)
that contains Welcome, Appearance, Editorial, etc is generated using a
custom navigator.

If you were able to remove the {navigatorLinks} macro from your template.
You, as Managing Editor, would no longer be able to edit any of the site
preferences, because there would be no lefthand navigation on the site
prefs page.

I managed to do this once by directly editing a template on a server (Bad
Idea!) and it left me scrambling.
