config.root compacting problem

I have all my databases compacted except for the config.root It has now 
grown to 1.25 gb and when I try to save a copy I get the error "Can't 
save the database because there was an ." I have 563 sites on this 
server. I have checked and debugging is not turned on. I have exported 
all the sites one by one and eliminated 2 sites that were making 
frontier unexpectedly quit when trying to export and this has not helped.

If anyone has a great idea for me to try I have an exact clone of the 
server and am willing to try anything.

My frontier server is a dual G4 1 GHZ x-serve with 1.5GB of ram running 
OS 10.2.6.
