So this would be true even if I made the manila.newsItem.create Manila-RPC call with department=""? I ask because I'm a bit uncertain about experimenting with my site at the moment (I'm not even sure if this interface is open on my host).

Is there a plan to change the way departments are handled in Manila? I'm not really happy with my taxonomy, but deleting departments seems to cause problems (and I don't wish to undo what I've done, merely stop adding to it). The channeling of all "general" posts to a dummy department has always seemed problematic (and I don't want to have to select it each time I make a post).
