Most people who use the Internet for news either search or keep a list of bookmarks and check their favorite sites for updates frequently throughout the day. Manila's news aggregator automatically does this for your readers by periodically reading a set of news sources, (feeds) in one of several XML-based formats, finds the new items, and displays them as a title, link, and short summary on the web page. Manila's News Aggregator will perform this service for you at whatever frequency you decide throughout the day. When you want a quick peek at the news, all you have to do is visit this one page.
UserLand built its first news aggregator in 1999. It was the first aggregator built on the now-popular format called RSS, a flavor of XML, which was co-developed by UserLand and Netscape. Click here to read the history of UserLand's news aggregator.
