FrontierMonitor Use

I have been investigating how best to monitor Frontier on OS X to make sure
it is running and came across the FrontierMonitor perl script written by
Emmanuel Décarie at scriptdigital.com.
I have it running but have some questions if anyone else has used this or
has other recommendations.
It will only start Frontier if I manually start the FrontierMonitor app by
hand from the terminal. If I try putting it in the StartupItems folder, it
doesn't start Frontier. If I start it with my Admin login startup, it
doesn't start Frontier. It will, however, log to the
/var/log/frontiermonitor.log file every time (minute) that it attempts to
start Frontier. I am not sure what I am missing to automate this.
It is also not emailing me when the service is down. Even when it does
start Frontier, it will not send an update via email.
Is there a better way to do this? I have considered just a cron job that
would restart the server every night. Although this might help, it would
still be nice for a service to monitor it throughout the day.
Thanks for your help.
