Playing with NewsPostTime macro?

Aloha. I'm trying to do some string manipulation with newsPostTime in my
NewsDay template, but getting this error every time. If I simply use
{newsPostTime} the date appears fine, but if I try to use any Frontier
verb and manipulate newsPostTime with it, I get this...

[Macro error: Can't evaluate the expression because the name
"newsPostTime" hasn't been defined.]

I've tried a bunch of string verbs, date verbs and others to try to
customize the look of the date in the NewsDay template, but always get
this error. Any ideas?
