Help with news items

I am unable to find how I can delete old news items
from my calendar.  I can delete the "discuss" part so
that when you click on the date in the calendar is
reads "this message has been deleted."  However, I
would like to delete the whole news item, and the
hyperlink to that day on the calendar??  Any help...
