bug:newsItems posted to home page can't be edited by the author

I have a 'contributing editor' and the site is newsItems driven.

My 'contributing editor' creates newsitem, posts it and releases to home
page. Then he wants to edit the post after it was released to home page. He
can't 'Edit' the post any more. There is no 'Edit' link on home page for the
post and there is no 'Edit this page' button on the same post in
DiscussionGroup.
The same person can enter a regular Discussion Group message and the post is
'edit this page' enabled.

Please advise how to proceed.
