Yes, but I was speaking from an API standpoint. :-)

IOW, if you haev an FSSpec with one of those iNode numbers in it and use it in an FSSpec-based rename command, you change the file's actual name to contain the iNode number.

(If you rename the file in an FSRef-capable app, like the Finder, this isn't a problem.)
