New Message: unwanted carriage returns at end of postings

I have made some new manila sites. ... For some odd reason there are about five unwanted \ at the end of new postings, and at the end of edited postings. ...

These unwanted carriage return add up, so that when I edit an edited version, there are 10, and so on. ... They do not delete in edited versions of the postings.

Why are they there?

How do I get rid of them?

Can I make them never show up?
