Marlin,

When you're launching the app, are you holding any key down, for example option (to close the Finder window while launching the app)? The option key causes the app to always ask for Frontier.root.

If not, then can you check to see if the non-Altivec version has the same behavior? It's possible that there was a bug introduced in the Altivec version.
