Data point. I tried the Altivec version and it didn't have a problem finding Frontier.root.

Marlin, could the database have been renamed by accident? Perhaps a space or hidden character in the name? You could reenter the name to make sure. You might want to make a copy of the file and work with the copy. If renaming the copy doesn't work then put the original back in place.
