New Message: New error when some site members try to post discussion messages

At our newly upgraded De Anza College site, some of my students (maybe 5%-10%) are getting the following error message when they try to post discussion replies to discussion messages.

[Sorry! There was an error: Error in kernel call. The verb "extract" does not exist, or isn't set up to handle messages.

I am familiar with the old error that was caused by the (Norton?) firewall software. Is this the same thing? The message is different.
