Your body tag is just <body bgcolor="#000000">, and I don't see any CSS information, so none of your color information is making it into page. To make the settings in Prefs/Appearances take effect, you need to use the {body} macro in your template (instead of <body ...>). If you prefer to use CSS to set the colors, add the {cascadingStyleSheet} macro in the <head> section of your template.
