Thanks Lawernce, I have now tested serving gems and pictures from Frontier. I also added the MP3 MIME file type which seems to have done the trick.
I'm still undecided if I should serve files this way on our production sites or serve them from apache on another sever. Not sure how much file serving users will require in the future.
